The capsizing of luxury cruise liner, Costa Concordia, has dealt a double blow to the Italian island of Giglio. Already reeling from the eurozone crisis, the island now faces a potential environmental disaster which the island’s tourist-dependent economy would find hard to survive. There are nearly 2400 tonnes of heavy fuel oil and 200 tonnes of diesel aboard the Costa Concordia and salvage workers are preparing to pump fuel out of the ship. Al Jazeera’s Paul Brennan reports from Giglio Island, Italy.

Italygiglioislandpkg?
They need Bunga Bunga Beach parties, and people? will come.
Italygiglioislandpkg??
The title lacks some spaces.
Italy? Giglio Island. idk what “pkg” is meant to represent though.
@Skable001 stfu?
@Skable001 its short for package – its a bundle? of the video, audio tracks, and subtitle tracks.
The Audio of the Capt. and the Cost Guard Commander is? crazy.
The effects of one man’s arrogance?
Most people have? “captains’ in their lives like this… they’re to busy having fun and being cool or trying to just eat and stay alive to see where the big ships headed…. Life is full of such irony…
We need superman? to come and pick the ship up to move to dry dock.
@Skable001
its ALWAYS like this on AlJazeeraenglish. When the editing is finished, it has a preliminary name / filename and they upload it immediately, to keep? the processing time low. Then they edit it when its in processing or went live.
They’re going to drill a hole to let sea water into the oil and diesel tanks!? WTF? Why don’t they just use a pump? This sounds fkn idiotic. Just like BP, just like Fukushima, just like Tijuana sewage leak to the Pacific, just like Katrina, the Iraq war and on and on. Who is coming? up with these fkn totally moronic “solutions”?
whats he complaining about, its not bobing? up and down but its a damm site more interesting
Once they get the Oil out, they’ll tow? it out a bit and in a few decades, it will be a great dive site for the tourists.
i love al? jazeera
@machngunjoe You? gotta link? please.
Controlled Demolition?
Amiright(wink)?
Having seen a documentary on recovery of disabled vessels such as this by the Dutch Company Smitt I would say they have the technical expertese to carry this operation sucessfully BUT the longer they are delayed by the Itallian? Authorities the riskier the recovery process becomes.
@Chesedrosen I posted it on your channel wall cause I don’t think YOUTUBE is letting post a link here in this message. otherwise type in ‘theworld.org’ type in the crusie ships name and pick the link that says ‘new information found on? ship tape’
salvage engineer=screw? the ecosystems, turn that wreck into cash
@beachsandinspector SOOO THE ITALIAN WILL BE DECIDING TO BE CALLED ASSASINS OR “ANTI-ECOLOGY” WHALES KILLERS???????!!!!!!
think before being? the milionth person speaking on this event.
@Jolandatommy
Where did I call Itallians ASSASINS OR “ANTI-ECOLOGY” WHALES KILLERS ???????
All I stated is that the longer a wreck recovery operation is delayed the riskier the safe recovery is. IF it is delayed too long the Costa Concordia could slip into the much deeper waters near the island and then there will be an enviromental issue.
There should be no issue with letting the salvage company recover? the oil and diesel while the search for people continues.
@Jolandatommy Dove ho chiamata ASSASSINI Itallians o anti-ECOLOGIA BALENE KILLERS
@danielvincentkelley
Believe it or not this is a proven method of removing heavy oil from disabled ships, this is because all oils float on water and by replacing the bulk of the oil with water the ballast of the ship is not affected, if they were to replace the oil with air in the tanks the ship would move off it’s position and could float enough to cause issues when they try and recover the oil in the? starboard tanks (the tanks fully under water).
